touching base this week

Hi everyone, This is the last week that Dan and I will both be around at the same time. Dan is leaving again for 3 weeks and then will be in/out of the office for the remainder of the summer (he has several other short-ish trips booked). I am around until the 13th but am then off-line for two weeks (having the other hip replaced) and then will be available electronically until the end of August- but will not be on campus. So. This is the week to touch base in person. This is even more important if you are working with both Dan and I on something. Dan and I will both be at Baker street this Wednesday at 5:30 so you can meet with us then, but if you feel that you’d like a more personal and quiet meeting you need to let us know asap so we can book something for you. It won’t work to drop in and hope to find us. Judi

meetings for the next two weeks

Hi folks, Since Dan is back in town and the IFS dev team is already meeting for the next two Tuesdays, I propose that we cancel the all-hands meetings on Wednesdays for this week and next week. I would like to have one on July 5 (before Dan leaves) so that we can all touch base again one more time with both Dan and I present. That way we know that we're all going in the same direction. If you would like to use the standing reservation at Baker Street for either of the next two Wednesdays for a team meeting, please let me know before noon tomorrow (Tuesday). I'll cancel the reservations if no one needs the space. IFS team I will book 312 for your Tuesday meetings. If you would like to meet individually with me, please send me an email and I'll schedule you in. I am taking some vacation days this week (T/W/Th) but will have time on Friday or next week. Judi

Meetings this week

Hi all, The IFS team is meeting tomorrow at 4:30 to discuss requirements and API considerations in Reynolds room 219. If you are working in the IFS code, think that you might sometime be working in that code, or are just interested- please come to that meeting. The rest of us (and any of the IFS team who want to do two meetings this week) will meet at our regular time on Wednesday at the Baker Street Station. If anyone wants an individual meeting with me this week, I’ll be on campus tomorrow afternoon (Tuesday), Wednesday and Thursday during the ‘middle’ of each day (roughly 10:30-3:00). Just let me know if you’d like some of my time. Judi

This week's thoughts

I think that we can likely go with virtual meetings this week instead of our Wednesday gathering. Most of you talked to Dan while he was here last week, and likely don’t need extra oversight this week. I am going to be in the office quite a bit this week, at least some part of every week day, and can meet with anyone who wants to visit about their work- just email me and we’ll set up a time. So- no required meeting Wednesday late afternoon- but please do check in this week either via email, slack or in person. Judi

This week's fun and frivolity

Tomorrow (Tuesday) is the big office shuffle day. We’re going to start the move by 10:30 and hopefully have everyone moved by 1 pm. Please try to be around to help out or arrange for someone to move your things for you. After the shuffle the rooms across from my office (322A and 322) will no longer belong to me and my students and I’ll be removing the lock box from the door and giving back my keys to the rooms. Make sure you’ve got your things out of there. I believe there is room in 325 for the summer students who are working with us for the summer (but not past the summer). If that room is full let me know and we’ll find another space for summer students to work. Wednesday is our regular meeting at the Baker Street Station. The meetings have been taking about an hour- with interested parties hanging around a bit longer. If you can’t come to the meeting but want to meet with me at a different time this week, please let me know. Dr. Denis Nikitenko is also going to be coming to our Wednesday meetings for the summer as he has helped both Dan and I with projects in the past and has good insight into some of the problems we’re working on. And he likes research and 4900 projects! Thursday I am moving to a second floor office from the third floor. I’m moving from my office at 311 Reynolds to the second floor (213 Reynolds). If you are feeling energetic/kind/bored, come on by on Thursday morning about 10:30 and help me shlep things from one floor to the next. cheers!
