Hello BCOMP Students,
Fall 2022 Undergraduate Teaching Assistant (UTA) positions have been posted. If you are considering being a teaching assistant, please prepare a résumé and head to https://www.uoguelph.ca/sessional_ta/teaching-assistant.
Application Material
If this will be your first time applying to be a teaching assistant, you will have to set up your profile information, which will auto-populate some of the fields in your application material. After that, you can apply to be a UTA for any course listed as a UTA work assignment. Clicking on the Posting ID (far-left column in the table located on the page linked above) will provide you with the full description of the job, as well as any requirements we are looking for in potential candidates for the position. Although we are only posting to hire for one position per course, we might need more than one person for each course, depending on enrolment rates.
Below is a tentative listing of all of the UTA positions that we will likely be hiring for:
* CIS*1200*DE (Introduction to Computing)
* CIS*1250 (Software Design I)
* CIS*1300 (Programming)
* CIS*1500 (Introduction to Programming)
* CIS*1910 (Discrete Structures in Computer)
* CIS*2030 (Structure and Application of Microcomputers)
* CIS*2430 (Object Oriented Programming)
* CIS*2520 (Data Structures)
* CIS*2750 (Software Systems Development and Integration)
When applying, please remember to include the following information:
* The application material (as noted in the postings at the link above)
* Attach a PDF document that is a combination of both your resume, as well as your unofficial transcript.
* These two pieces of information, alongside the application material, will collectively be used by the Hiring Committee to assess your qualifications (academic and professional), competence, capability, skill and ability, and prior relevant experience, as per the Collective Agreement.
* Please ensure that you are indicating how you meet the required and preferred qualifications. We assess each application individually and look for evidence of qualification before anything else, so it is best to explicitly state what qualifications you meet and provide concrete examples where possible.
* Please take note that some courses will be offered in a distanced format, some in a hybrid format, and some fully in-class. Please take this into consideration as you apply, and include any restrictions on your availability where possible.
* If you are applying for a position and have taken relevant courses outside of the University of Guelph or have been employed at a job related to the topics covered in the course, remember to include this in your application along with a short description of the course or job.
* Due to the nature of the expected online environment moving into the Fall 2021 semester, we are requesting that you include your anticipated time zone in your application as well. This allows us to better facilitate interactions between instructors, students, and teaching assistants. There is an anticipation that you will be available during a specified time period, as noted in the application postings.
For any questions regarding the process, please contact Joshua Lange, the Instructional Support Coordinator for SoCS, at jlange(a)uoguelph.ca<mailto:jlange@uoguelph.ca>. Applications close on July 7th, 2022.
Regards,
