Hello CIS Students!
Fall 2025 Undergraduate Teaching Assistant (UTA) positions have now been posted for the upcoming Fall 2025 semester. If you are interested in becoming a teaching assistant, please prepare a resume and head to https://www.uoguelph.ca/sessional_ta/teaching-assistant. Applications close on July 6th at 11:59pm. I strongly recommend that you submit your application before 4pm on July 4th to ensure that we can help you if you run into any issues while applying.
If you have any issues applying, please view the FAQ in this email and the hiring portal FAQ<https://www.uoguelph.ca/sessional_ta/faqs> before reaching out to me for assistance (teachingsupport(a)uoguelph.ca<mailto:teachingsupport@uoguelph.ca>).
PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING REMINDERS CAREFULLY:
* Carefully read the qualifications of the position you are applying to. If you do not meet all of the required qualifications then you cannot be hired for that position; make sure that you demonstrate that you meet the qualifications in your application!
* Read the posting carefully, it may include instructions or request that you include certain things in your application.
* INCLUDE YOUR TRANSCRIPT IN YOUR APPLICATION. If a position requires a certain grade, it is up to you to show that you meet that qualification. If you do not include your transcript, you may not be considered. A copy of your unofficial transcript can be obtained from WebAdvisor.
* If this is your first time applying to be a teaching assistant, you will need to set up your profile information before applying.
* When applying, submit your resume, transcript, and any other application materials as one PDF; you cannot upload multiple documents at a time.
* Ensure you are applying to UTA positions ONLY. You cannot be considered for GTA positions as an undergraduate.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why can’t I see the “apply” button?”
The “apply” option is only visible when you are logged in, and it is located on the far right of the page. Please ensure that you have logged in (and completed your profile if this is your first time using the site) and refresh the page to see the “apply” button. On smaller screens you may need to scroll sideways.
“I submitted my application but I need to change something! What do I do?”
If you need to update your application for a specific posting, you can apply again with the updated information. If you apply multiple times for the same position, we will use the most recent application information that was provided when assessing your candidacy.
“Did you receive my application?”
Applicants should receive a confirmation email shortly after applying. If you do not receive a confirmation email, please apply again. If you apply multiple times and do not receive any confirmation emails, please contact the department at teachingsupport(a)socs.uoguelph.ca<mailto:teachingsupport@socs.uoguelph.ca>.
“I can only select one file, but I have multiple files to submit. What do I do?”
The system can only accept one attachment per application. Please combine all relevant documents into one PDF and upload. Please do not submit the documents separately by applying multiple times.
“What is my Level of Consideration?”
As an Undergraduate, your Level of Consideration is “N/A.”
“What does the ‘Consider me for all other available work assignments in my home department’ option actually mean?”
By selecting “yes” for this option, you will be considered first for the position you directly applied to. However, if you do not get hired for that position, your application will be passed on and considered for other positions in the department. As such, you may receive an offer for a position that you did not directly apply to if you agree to this option.
