Hello everyone,
Summer 2026 Undergraduate Teaching Assistant (UTA) positions have been posted for the School of Computer Science. If you are considering being a teaching assistant, please prepare a resume and head to https://www.uoguelph.ca/sessional_ta/teaching-assistant. Applications close on March 5th, 2026.
Here is a tentative list of the courses that UTAs may be hired for:
* CIS*1050*DE (Web Design and Development)
*
CIS*1500*DE (Introduction to Programming)
* CIS*2750 (Software Systems Development and Integration) (*IN PERSON*)
Things to Remember:
• Check the qualifications of the position you are applying for. It is assumed that applicants are unqualified unless they provide evidence that they do meet the qualifications of the position.
• Read the posting carefully, it may include instructions or request that you include certain things in your application.
• Ensure you update/populate your profile each semester that you apply!
• INCLUDE YOUR TRANSCRIPT IN YOUR APPLICATION. If a position requires a certain grade, it is up to you, as the applicant, to demonstrate that you meet that qualification. If you do not include your transcript, you may not be considered. A copy of your unofficial transcript can be obtained from WebAdvisor.
• You MUST apply online – we cannot accept applications by email.
How to Apply:
If this will be your first time applying to be a teaching assistant, you will have to set up your profile information, which will auto-populate some of the fields in your application material. After that, you can apply to be a UTA for any course listed as a UTA work assignment.
Clicking on the Posting ID (far-left column in the table located on the page linked above) will provide you with the full description of the job, as well as any requirements we are looking for in potential candidates for the position.
When applying, please remember to include the following information:
* The application material (as noted in the postings at the link above)
* Attach a PDF document that is a combination of both your resume and your unofficial transcript. Only one document can be uploaded with your application.
* These two pieces of information, alongside the application material, will collectively be used by the Hiring Committee to assess your qualifications (academic and professional), competence, capability, skill and ability, and prior relevant experience, as per the Collective Agreement.
* If you are applying for a position and have taken relevant courses outside of the University of Guelph or have been employed at a job related to the topics covered in the course, remember to include this in your application along with a short description of the course or job.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why can’t I see the “apply” button?”
The “apply” option is only visible when you are logged in. Please ensure that you have logged in (and completed your profile if this is your first time using the site) and refresh the page to see the “apply” button.
“I can only select one file, but I have multiple files to submit. What do I do?”
The system can only accept one attachment per application. Please combine all relevant documents into one PDF and upload. Please do not submit the documents separately by applying multiple times.
“I submitted my application but I need to change something! What do I do?”
If you need to update your application for a specific posting, you can apply again with the updated information. If you apply multiple times for the same position, we will use the most recent application information that was provided when assessing your candidacy.
“How do I attach my transcript?”
The system can only accept one attachment per application. Please combine all relevant documents (such as transcript, cover letter, and resume) into one PDF and upload. Please do not submit the documents separately by applying multiple times.
“Did you receive my application?”
Applicants should receive a confirmation email shortly after applying. If you do not receive a confirmation email of your application, please apply again. If you apply multiple times and do not receive any confirmation emails, please contact the department at teachingsupport(a)socs.uoguelph.ca<mailto:teachingsupport@socs.uoguelph.ca>.
“Should I follow up via email?”
While this may be a good practice for most jobs, we must exclusively evaluate the information submitted through official channels. As such, following up via email to emphasize your interest in the position will not improve your chances of receiving a position. A better approach would be to include a cover letter in your application. We also cannot accept applications or application materials by email.
