Hi Everyone,
This email is mostly for Bachelor of Computing students but all students in CIS courses are included in case you need help adding a winter CIS course. If you are not a BCOMP student you need to connect with your program counsellor for other academic advising, not us.
Course selection starts soon. Please read this email so you know what to expect when registering in CIS courses and how you can get help if you need it.
Depending on how many credits you have (completed + in progress [not planned]), you will be able to register for winter courses on:
17.75+ Monday November 14
15.25+ Tuesday November 15
12.75+ Wednesday November 16
10.25+ Thursday November 17
7.75+ Friday November 18
5.25+ Monday November 21
2.75+ Tuesday November 22
0.00+ BCOMP Wednesday November 23
0.00+ Thursday November 24
Registration starts at 8:00am on that day. Most days space will be manually added. It might be on WebAdvisor around 8:30am or 9am.
Course selection will start with the 4th year students over two days, so 4000 level CIS courses will get spaces both days. They will be fully open by the second day. Then third, second, and first - based on credit level.
You want to register for courses on the first day you can, to ensure you get into required and elective CIS courses. For example if a 4th year student waits longer the spots might be taken by other students on Wednesday and the course will be full.
If you need help or have questions the best way to get help will be to talk to us in online Microsoft Teams office hours. We plan to be available 8:30am to 10:00am Monday through Friday during the first two weeks of course selection.
We will update our website frequently: https://www.uoguelph.ca/computing/undergraduates/undergraduate-program-coun…

Dear CIS*2520 students:
As you have been made aware, Dr. Charlie Obimbo needed to extend his leave. As a result, SoCS has hired Mr. Yukun Shi to take over the course, starting this week. We feel sorry that you need to study with three different instructors for this course. However, when Dr. Obimbo first requested a 3-week leave, we believed that Dr. Yan Yan can offer you the best learning experience over this period, since she taught a Data Structure course at Thompson River University. We didn’t expect at the time that Dr. Obimbo’s leave would go beyond 4 weeks.
In any case, we trust that Mr. Shi, who is a PhD student at SoCS, is highly capable for guiding you through the reminder of the course. If you have any concerns or questions, please feel free to reach out to me (director(a)socs.uoguelph.ca<mailto:director@socs.uoguelph.ca>).
Best Wishes
Minglun
