Hi Everyone,
Students admitted to Bachelor of Computing, Computer Science or Software Engineering majors in 2025 have to complete one of the four Areas of Emphasis. The options are:
* Data Science
* User Experience
* Cybersecurity
* Artificial Intelligence
It will generally take at least six semesters to complete one, and does need some careful planning.
We recommend you declare and start your Area of Emphasis now. That gives you some flexibility in case you drop a course or there is a timetable conflict between two courses that you need later on.

Hi Everyone,
You are receiving this e-mail because you may be on one or more waitlist for a CIS course. To help you to make decisions, this is what we know currently:
We are checking with the School of Computer Science to see if it’s possible to add more space to:
Fall 2025:
* CIS*2750
* CIS*3090
* CIS*3130
* CIS*3530
* CIS*3750
* CIS*3760
* CIS*4020
Winter 2026:
* CIS*1050*DE
* CIS*1500
* CIS*3760
* CIS*4010
If you are on the waitlist in CIS courses not listed above you are waiting for other students to drop that section. No additional space is scheduled to become available.
Please take a look at ALL other sections of CIS courses to see if there are seats available in other sections or a different semester. You may need to page through multiple pages to see all of the sections. Consider registering in those sections now, before many restrictions lift on July 23rd.
If you don’t think you can make a conflict free schedule with required CIS courses please email us about that now: cscouns(a)uoguelph.ca<mailto:cscouns@uoguelph.ca>
Sincerely,
Sarah and Greg
