I hope you are doing well. I was wondering whether you could share this great opportunity with your student community. For the first time in its 91-year history, the Ottawa Conference on Security and Defence will be free for students to attend, a unique occasion to hear from thought leaders and decision-makers from across the world on the most pressing security issues of our day. STEM students, in particular, will have the opportunity to meet a host of potential employers in the defence and security sectors. [A picture containing funnel chart Description automatically generated.png] The CDA Institute is pleased to invite students to attend our upcoming 91st Ottawa Conference on Security and Defence (March 9th-10th), the largest event of its kind in Canada. All students can watch the event virtually for free, and 50 people will be selected at random among student registrants to attend the event in person at the prestigious Fairmount Château Laurier. The Ottawa Conference is by far the largest security and defence conference in Canada. Attendees include Senators, Members of Parliament, senior public servants from 20 different government departments and agencies, foreign dignitaries, as well as a very large delegation from the Canadian Armed Forces and the Department of National Defence including many General and Flag Officers. WHY ATTEND? Students will have the opportunity to hear from high-level practitioners and thought leaders in the fields of defence and security. Attending the conference will allow you to gain geostrategic insight and gather the timeliest expert threat analysis and understanding of security and technological developments. This represents a unique opportunity to showcase and increase your engagement within the thriving Canadian community interested in defence and security matters. To all Faculty, Staff and Students at CEPS: Remember: Masks help protect you and others With the return of cold and flu season and to help reduce the risk of COVID-19, the University of Guelph reminds you of the importance of wearing masks in high-density spaces, including classrooms, labs, elevators and meeting rooms. Think of the 3Cs when choosing to wear a mask. Masks are useful in spaces that are: * Closed (indoors) * Crowded, and * Create close contact. Wearing a mask is an easy way to protect yourself and those around you. We will continue to monitor public health trends and evaluate the need for masking. The University may reinstate its masking requirement at any time and with little notice. Any updates on our masking requirement will be shared as they become available. Hello BCOMP Students, Winter 2023 Undergraduate Teaching Assistant (UTA) positions have been posted. If you are considering being a teaching assistant, please prepare a résumé and head to https://www.uoguelph.ca/sessional_ta/teaching-assistant. Make sure to update your profile before applying to positions! Application Material If this will be your first time applying to be a teaching assistant, you will have to set up your profile information, which will auto-populate some of the fields in your application material. After that, you can apply to be a UTA for any course listed as a UTA work assignment. Clicking on the Posting ID (far-left column in the table located on the page linked above) will provide you with the full description of the job, as well as any requirements we are looking for in potential candidates for the position. Description of the scholarship and submission instructions are provided below. Adknown Inc. Scholarship - application due October 25, 2021 These awards have been generously provided by Adknown Inc., a leading web and app publisher with a passion for ad-tech, proudly based in downtown Guelph. Apply to the School of Computer Science Awards Committee by October 25, 2021 with a letter of no more than 400 words, outlining achievements in the areas of leadership, innovation or volunteerism, either on or off campus, and include their C.V. Selection will be based on demonstrated achievements or accolades in one or more of the areas of leadership, innovation or impact of one or more areas of volunteerism, either on or off campus. This award can be held only once. One award given to students in each of the two SoCS majors: Computer Science and Software Engineering Students registered in the Computer Science or Software Engineering majors offered by the School of Computer Science who have completed a minimum of 14.0 credits, but no more than 19.5 credits, achieved a minimum 70% cumulative average and has participated in extracurricular activities. Squires was a staff member at the Memorial University of Newfoundland who was always willing to help worthwhile students. David was also a hard-working, respected member of the Data Processing Management Association (DPMA). The Squires Foundation was created in honour of David L. Squires by his DPMA peers to help students. Eligibility The Squires Foundation provides scholarships each year to students who: 1. demonstrate significant financial need; 2. are Canadian Citizens OR Landed Immigrants; 3. are in a full time Computer Science program at a University or College; 4. have successfully completed 2 full semesters in this program; and, 5. have reached a high level of scholastic achievement. Good afternoon, My name is Logan Hagen, and I am an undergraduate research assistant working with Dr. Ritu Chaturvedi this summer on a study about academic misconduct among undergraduate computer science students. We are seeking student input on a short, anonymous survey that could help the school better design programming assignments, and overall course structure. Do you feel pressure to complete your programming assignments on time? Are you being provided with enough resources to succeed in your classes? Have you ever felt it wasn't clear what counts as academic misconduct and what does not? Your feedback could be used to better design assignments and courses this fall that assess student ability more accurately, as well as guide educational efforts to promote academic integrity.
