Dear CIS*2520 students:
As you have been made aware, Dr. Charlie Obimbo needed to extend his leave. As a result, SoCS has hired Mr. Yukun Shi to take over the course, starting this week. We feel sorry that you need to study with three different instructors for this course. However, when Dr. Obimbo first requested a 3-week leave, we believed that Dr. Yan Yan can offer you the best learning experience over this period, since she taught a Data Structure course at Thompson River University. We didn’t expect at the time that Dr. Obimbo’s leave would go beyond 4 weeks.
In any case, we trust that Mr. Shi, who is a PhD student at SoCS, is highly capable for guiding you through the reminder of the course. If you have any concerns or questions, please feel free to reach out to me (director(a)socs.uoguelph.ca<mailto:director@socs.uoguelph.ca>).
Best Wishes
Minglun

Dear all,
Good afternoon and welcome back to the start of an exciting Fall 2022 semester! There are a few things about Reynolds that I would like to bring to your attention.
1. Following the university's policy, we have designated room 0001 in the basement as a mask required area for undergraduate students. Those who wish to wear masks when work in Reynolds are welcomed to use this room. Similarly, room 3321 has been designated as a mask required area for graduate students.
1. The study space on the main floor is a quiet study space between 8:30am-4:30pm each weekday. If you wish to discuss/socialize with classmates/friends, please use one of the rooms downstairs (for undergraduate students) or the grad lounge (for graduate students). You will be asked to relocate if you are disturbing any of the offices on the first floor.
Thank you and wishing everyone a success Fall semester.

Hi Everyone,
You are taking a 4th year CIS course which suggests you are getting close to graduation.
We just want to highlight that if you have Co-op work terms like COOP*1000, COOP*2000 etc. and they have credits, those do not count towards the academic credit requirements.
The Honours degree requires 20.0 credits not including work term credits. Effective Summer 2019, Co-op work terms have been assigned a 0.5 credit weight.
The Student Planning tool includes the work term credits in the progress bar which is misleading. A student with five work terms for credit will require at least 22.5 credits whereas a student with four work terms for credit would require 22.0 credits. (We have asked for the planning tool to be corrected - agreed, it doesn’t make sense - it especially throws you off because why can’t it be accurate, right? Apparently it’s not possible to fix it.)
Please double check your academic credits.
If you find you are short on academic credits course selection is open until midnight tomorrow (September 16th). You can even overload yourself on September 16 pending available space in courses, up to 3.25 credits.
Sincerely,
---

Hello CIS*2910 Students,
From what I know, CIS*2910 grades are planned to be submitted later today. From there it will take about a day of processing to get them up on WebAdvisor. They should be available tomorrow afternoon or Wednesday morning.
Sincerely,
Greg

Hello CIS*1910 Students,
The lecture format for CIS*1910 has changed to online for the semester due to last minute staffing changes.
All of you will have the option to watch the lectures live online in the 8:30AM to 9:50AM lecture time. The lectures will also be recorded in case you can’t make them. (The afternoon section is now asynchronous. You could watch the recorded lecture if you could not make the morning one.)
The tutorials will remain in person as scheduled. As far as I know they are optional help sessions with teaching assistants and are not mandatory, but your professor will confirm details in the first (online) class.
Sincerely,
Greg
