Hello BCOMP Students, Fall 2020 Undergraduate Teaching Assistant (UTA) positions have been posted. If you are considering being a teaching assistant, please prepare a résumé and head to https://www.uoguelph.ca/sessional_ta/teaching-assistant. Application Material If this will be your first time applying to be a teaching assistant, you will have to set up your profile information, which will auto-populate some of the fields in your application material. After that, you can apply to be a UTA for any course listed as a UTA work assignment. Clicking on the Posting ID (far-left column in the table located on the page linked above) will provide you with the full description of the job, as well as any requirements we are looking for in potential candidates for the position. Although we are only posting to hire for one position per course, we might need more than one person for each course, depending on enrolment rates. Below is a tentative listing of all of the UTA positions that we will likely be hiring for: * CIS*1000*DE (Introduction to Computer Applications) * CIS*1300 (Programming) * CIS*1500 (Introduction to Programming) * CIS*2030 (Structure and Application of Microcomputers) * CIS*2430 (Object Oriented Programming) * CIS*2520 (Data Structures) * CIS*2750 (Software Systems Development and Integration) When applying, please remember to include the following information: * The application material (as noted in the postings at the link above) * Attach a PDF document that is a combination of both your resume, as well as your unofficial transcript. * These two pieces of information, alongside the application material, will collectively be used by the Hiring Committee to assess your qualifications (academic and professional), competence, capability, skill and ability, and prior relevant experience, as per the Collective Agreement. * If you are applying for a position and have taken relevant courses outside of the University of Guelph or have been employed at a job related to the topics covered in the course, remember to include this in your application along with a short description of the course or job. * Due to the nature of the expected online environment moving into the Fall 2020 semester, we are requesting that you include your anticipated time zone in your application as well. CIS*4010 Cloud Computing will be offered fall only this year

Hi Everyone, Just a quick note to say that CIS*4010 which is normally a winter course, will be offered this fall instead. This is a temporary change. It was made to accommodate a professor's teaching schedule. It will not be taught again in winter 2021. With this in mind, Life Sciences Ontario (LSO) is pleased to announce the expansion of the Life Sciences Ontario Scholarship Program; now in its second year. This program will award 37 undergraduate students, studying in fields that are linked to the employment footprint of the Life Sciences sector, a total value of $3000 for the 2020 fall/winter term. The Life Sciences sector is at the forefront globally in combating the spread of the COVID-19 virus. The Life Sciences sector is comprised of hospitals, clinics, research institutes, colleges and universities, biopharma, eHealth, health charities and not-for-profits, medical laboratories, biotech, and medical device companies, all committed to supporting global efforts of combating COVID-19. CIS*2430 this summer at Guelph?

Hi Everyone, The School of Computer Science plans to offer CIS*2430 this summer as a 6 week course starting in May. The plan is to make lecture content available online so you would not have to attend classes. There will be 3 graded labs which will need to be done in person, likely on evenings or weekends, so you would need to be here for those, plus the final exam. Please double check credits if this is your last semester before graduating

Hi Everyone, If you plan to graduate at the end of this semester, please double check your credits and requirements. Especially if you completed a COOP work term in S19 or later. Those Co-op credits are incorrectly being included in your credit count, and the only hint you have about the error is a little footnote on the transcript/academic evaluation. For example, if you completed COOP*5000 in S19, the academic evaluation would show it as “INP" with a 0.5 credit weight. It might also show you only need to take 2.0 credits this semester instead of 2.5, because it’s counting the COOP*5000 as a real course. We have asked for a fix, the best for now was the footnote explanation, I agree it’s not great. It would be even worse if someone had to delay graduation because of it. April and I are happy to do early grad checks, just ask. In person or email both work. Please include your student number if it’s by email.
